We arrived at the Tembo House Hotel in a dark maze of twisty passages, all different. Once you figure out what Tembo means, the rest of this post might make more sense. Our room is three floors up, in an old building with tall ceilings and no elevator. We can use the exercise after riding for so many days.

We went for a walk today to explore “Stone Town” (the old part of the city). Our long walk lasted less than two hours (it is a small area). No street names on the walls so using the map software is more challenging than normal navigating.

All journeys to old neighborhoods bring their own surprises. Grand doors (Indian style), local cats and fish, and potentially exciting building techniques.

Walk completed, we retired to chairs in the shade on the beach, kindles in hand, and baked away much of the afternoon. We can confirm the Indian Ocean is salty like the other oceans, The sun light eventually left the courtyard pool so we took a dip there too. The afternoon ended with gelato.

The day was not without animals to search for. They were a bit easier this time.

The day was not without animals to search for. They were a bit easier to find than on safari. Some of them were hiding in the fabric in our room..

Tomorrow we can try the second level pool (no shade).
