A long travel day

We were up before 5 am for breakfast at 520 or so, then finish packing, pay our bill, leave tip, etc. Mateo, our driver informed us last night that the normal route to Kisoro was just over an hour. But there was a bridge collapse and thankfully there was another route but it would take close to 2 hours.

Our waitress recognized the truck. It was hauling charcoal.

Our flight was at 840 and we didn’t need to be at the airport til 8 10 or so. We had another 3 rides on the bush plane. We had a 15 min flight to Kihihi, picked up 7 more passengers. Then flew 20 minutes to Kasese and picked up up 2 more. So we were a full flight of 12. Smooth flying all around and we arrived in Entebbe, Uganda. We had about 2 hours so visited a lounge for snacks.

Then we got on a normal plane to Nairobi, Kenya. We are now in another lounge and our final destination is Zanzibar, Tanzania. We get in around 830. Our plan is to sleep in and sight see and maybe swim.

I wanted to write a little about our lodges. The most recent one, Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge was so nice. We get 3 meals a day. If we are out for lunch, they will pack us a sack lunch. At this lodge, we pick our meal from 2-3 options a few hours before. I was even able to ask for and get gf pancakes one morning.

While we are at dinner, our room attendant, gets our room ready for sleep. He closes all the curtains, closes the mosquito netting around our bed and fills our water bottles. But the surprise came the first night. I pulled back the covers and in the middle of the bed was a hot water bottle. It warmed our bed, as this area is cooler. It usually was still warm in the morning. What a thoughtful thing!

They also clean our very muddy and wet hiking boots each day. They give us crocs to walk back to our room. The shoes come back looking almost brand new. They are usually dry by morning.

At our last lodge, Papyrus House in Entebbe, our room attendant noticed our dirty shoes and offered to clean them. He came back with them an hour later. The attention to detail in all of our lodges has been amazing.
